You’ve got an idea for the perfect steel building on your property — but can you actually build it there? Here’s how to know.
Check Your Local Zoning and Building Codes
Before you begin to build, you need to know that your land is approved for use for residential or commercial purposes, depending on what you’re planning to build. You also need to determine if there are any restrictions to consider, like maximum lot coverage or limits on certain types of structures. Reach out to your local government’s city planning department to ask about your building and get a rundown on all codes and laws.
Review Flood Maps
It’s important that you only build on solid land that isn’t prone to flooding. Check your area’s flood maps to see if your ideal building zone is susceptible to floods and could create lots of risk.
Get a Building Permit
You can’t start building without approval first! Once you’ve determined you should be allowed to build, you need to get a permit. Contact your city’s building department and apply for a construction permit. Once you receive approval, construction can begin! Thankfully, RHINO buildings are known for easily passing through the permitting process, but if you run into any trouble, our team is happy to help.
Have Your Foundation Plans Approved
Some building permits require that you submit foundation plans for approval. A civil engineer can use RHINO’s anchor bolt plans to help you create a certified foundation plan to submit.
